YouTube have announced a further enhancement to their video statistics, which adds details about the demographics of users who view your videos. First launched in March this year, YouTube Insight now provides even more data to enhance your video marketing efforts.
Video publishers now have access to view count information broken down by age group (such as 18-24), gender and a combination of the two. These details are pulled from the details provided to YouTube when users register an account.
Here is a screen shot for the demographics tab from one of our videos:
Another new tab I’ve noticed is the Discovery tab which gives information on where your main video views are coming from. Here is an example:
If you click on one of the views it then breaks down the individual elements of that traffic source. For example, clicking on Google search will then display a list of all the keywords used to find your video. This can help you uncover if you’ve optimized your video for the right keywords and if they are driving traffic to it.
Business owners can now use these stats to profile what type of users are watching their videos and then match this against their customer base to see if they’re hitting the right audience.
If you’re keen to check it out for yourself, you can find these new metrics under the “Demographics” tab within the Insight dashboard. Click on the “Insight” button under “Account > My Videos.”
