If you’re a regular reader of our blog then you will know we’re all big believers in link building to build your websites ranking in the search engines and overall popularity across the Internet.
There are so many different techniques to use to build links to your website, but in the end your success won’t come down how you get links but the type of links you get. The key is to build a diverse link profile.
There are basically 2 types of links: links with the potential to increase your websites search engine ranking and links with the potentials to increase the amount of visitors to your website. With Google changing the goal posts (it seems) almost weekly, your link building strategy is going to change with it. If you only focus on links with the intent of increasing the search ranking of your site then you run the risk of diminishing the success of the website each time Google changes their algorithm. To diminsh this impact, you should also build links to your site that will send visitors directly to your website (ie from high traffic websites or advertisers).
I came across the infographic shown below which outlines that links can be valuable even if they dont help increase your search engine ranking. When you approach link building in this way your website will not be as dramatically affected by changes in algorithms.
