We’ve not heard a lot of news lately from Yahoo! so when its CEO Carol Bartz speaks it sparks some attention.
When Bartz spoke to AdAge recently she took a swipe at the advertising industry as a whole.
“For an industry that’s based on creativity and inspiring people, I don’t know why it’s so afraid. I don’t think it should be afraid to just try some crazy new…

The major search stats are out for January 2010 and it further shows how the steady decline of Yahoo! is being picked up as growth by other search engines such as Bing.
During January 2010, Bing searches increased 0.6 points to claim 11.3 percent of overall searches, while Yahoo! continues to fade, dropping 0.3 points to 17 percent.
Here’s the full range of stats from comScore:

This seems like a valid question considering the lack of activity from Yahoo! lately in search, while Google & Bing continue to innovate.
Well, to answer the question, Yahoo! still is very much committed to search as indicated at its recent SearchSpeak conference.
The event was basically a press conference allowing Yahoo!’s Search Products SVP Shashi Seth to dispel the “misconception” that Yahoo! was no longer investing in search.…

If Google gets its way, 2010 is to be the year of display ads.
According to Business Week, Eric Schmidt’s prediction about display advertising back in July last year could well come true.
The Google CEO hinted that display advertising could be the next of Google’s businesses to generate $1 billion in sales. Now analysts believe that this wish is likely to come true.
Analysts including Doug Anumth from…
2009 was a disappointing and potentially business changing year for Yahoo! in terms of Search. If not for the deal brokered with Microsoft, 2010 might have been the end of the once mighty search engine.
So with a new year upon them, and a glimmer of hope on the horizon, Yahoo! have come out with a range of enhancements to help reinstate their position in the market.

The results are in and it’s no surprise that Google still has a commanding hold on the US search market. But has the Bing bubble burst?
Hitwise reports that while Google’s market share rose in December 2009 to 72%, Bing’s actually decreased by 4% from November 2009. The same can also be said for Yahoo! & Ask (but that’s really no surprise, is it?). Here are the…

News is surfacing that a report has been released & financed by the French government recommending that Google, Yahoo!, MSN and other big advertising companies be taxed on revenue made by online advertising.
The Zelnick Report says the tax would apply anytime an online ad or sponsored link is clicked in France and calls for a company to be taxed regardless of where it is based.
Dubbed the…

When Yahoo! launched BOSS (Build Your Own Search Service) back in July last year it was touted as the innovation to save Yahoo! from Microsoft’s takeover bids.
Unfortunately Yahoo! wasn’t that lucky with the takeover and it would appear that BOSS is facing an uncertain future also.
BOSS allows developers to tap into Yahoo!’s core search index with an unprecedented amount of flexibility and build projects on Yahoo!’s APIs…

Happy New Year to one and all! It’s hard to believe it is 2010.
The web is full of predictions about what is going to happen in search for 2010 – some good, some obvious and some way out there. In the past, I have cast my predictions and even managed to get some right.
This year, I thought I would do something different – not what I thought…
