Search Showdown: Bing vs. Google vs. Yahoo

In case you missed the big event, Microsoft launched their new search engine Bing.com last week. Since then, people all around the globe have been testing the site and providing their feedback on the results.

Initial reports have been quite positive, with many people saying they’re impressed with the quality of Bing search results. Statcounter is even reporting that Bing has overtaken Yahoo! as the number two search engine in the U.S!

While these stats will probably level out in the coming months, I do agree that Bing is a significant improvement from Microsoft’s previous ‘Live’ search engine.

But is it possible that Bing’s results are actually better than Google’s?

For most of us, we’d quickly dismiss the idea because we’ve considered Google to be the holy grail of search results for such a long time. But if you were subject to a blind test, an unbranded comparison between Bing, Google and Yahoo! – would Google still come out on top?

Take the test for yourself: http://blindsearch.fejus.com

Using the site above, you’ll be presented with 3 unbranded columns of search results and you simply pick which one you think is most relevant. After you choose, it will let you know which search engine provided the results. Keep a tally and after 10 or so searches, let us know which search engine came out on top! You may be surprised!

Google consistently came out on top for me in the blind test. Next was Bing, Yahoo was last.

What a great idea the blind test is from Blind Search – was very interesting, although Google was still the winner.

Interesting comparison test because Bing will not have the search history that Google and Yahoo from historical search usage.

I like Bing, ranks my web page No2, but joking aside, nice layout, fast search, definately gonna give google a run for it’s money.
To be honest, it is ALWAYS worth using more than one search engine if you really want totally unbiased search results in my opinion!

It may have been my search terms but it seemed like Bing was providing me with better result.

Its interesting to see that Bing provides more closer results to the search query.

I certainly was surprised when Bing kept appearing for my results.

Bing is the best search engine in the world

Interestingly enough, for me Yahoo came first, Bing second & Google 3rd each time. Google’s results looked messy & there were more non-relevant sites appearing in the results than the other two!
