The latest update to the various Yahoo! search algorithms is underway according to their first Weather Report for 2009. As usual, the updates will bring mixed results for website owners, with some enjoying improved rankings, while other muse over why they’ve been penalized. According to the release post:
We’ve rolled out some changes to our index with fresh web data and updates to our crawling, indexing, and ranking algorithms over the last few days. We have had two updates since last November: one in December, 2008, and another in late January this year. We expect the update will be completed very soon.
Here’s some of the feedback from site owners on the latest update:
We are hearing mixed reviews from our clients. Our search volume on Yahoo has not increased. However we have clients who have picked up hundreds of visits on average per day. Perhaps this new update will be conducive to long term success.
looks like i”ve lost links and some canonical issues again, which i hope to see removed as the link rel was added to my pages the beginning of the week so too late for this update.
I”m seeing some movement also. I am seeing two different titles and descriptions for singular vs. plural of my main keyword. It”s the same URL, so kind of odd.
As the update is still underway, there will surely be more discussion on the impact of the update. If you’ve experienced any changes to your rankings in Yahoo!, share your experiences with our other readers via the comments below.
