Yahoo! has released an update to its search algorithm. The update begun on October 31. The last update was about a month ago and Yahoo! has confirmed Octobers update,
“Over the last few days, we’ve been rolling out some changes to our crawling, indexing, and ranking algorithms. While we expect the update will be completed soon, as you know, throughout this process you may see some ranking changes and page shuffling in the index.”
This looks to be a relatively quiet update compared to Google’s which targeted specific websites that were infringing the Google webmaster guidelines. Yahoo!’s update seems to be making more of an effort to clean up their search results.
Yahoo! is obviously addressing its results relevancy, firstly by launching search assist, expending yahoo shortcuts, and including images and video in the search results – and now a algorithm update to improve SERPs.
One member from Digital Point Forums who lost rank commented,
“Every morning I check my search results through the Keyword Ranking tool here at DP and to my astonishment I found that 90% of my sites lost rankings in Yahoo…
Most rankings have declined from top 3 into lower top 10 or even top 50 and my previous top 10 rankings are now nearing the 100.”
After the update, some websites may end up on the wrong side on the search results, but the continual tidying and tweaking of Yahoo!’s search results will benefit users, by hopefully providing more relevant search results.
