Yahoo! have announced another update to their search index which will impact the ranking of your sites in Yahoo! search results. As per previous updates, Yahoo! have issued their standard warning, “you may see some ranking changes and page shuffling in the index.”
Yahoo! typically update their search algorithm towards the end of each month, which is much more frequent than Google’s PageRank updates. Even though Yahoo’s search share is significantly lower than Google’s, it’s still important to give your Yahoo! listings a “once over” after ranking updates and make sure you haven’t experienced any significant drops.
After reporting on these updates for the last few years, I’ve noticed that it’s usually new sites that will see the biggest changes after an index update. If you’ve noticed a change in your rankings, I would recommend doing a quick test using some advanced search parameters:
- site: To check if all your pages are still listed.
- link: To monitor any change in backlinks.
- url: To check specific details about your core pages.
