The three major search engines – Google, Yahoo and MSN – were the source of almost 22% of U.S. visits to shopping and classified websites in late August (more specifically, during the week ending August 26). According to competitive intelligence service Hitwise, Google alone was responsible for 14.93% of upstream visits to shopping and classified sites, Yahoo! contributed 4.69% and MSN 2.33%.
Surprisingly, MySpace, the social networking site, was the source of 2.53% of all visits to shopping and classified sites, and has therefore become a more important traffic source for e-commerce sites than the search engine MSN. I’m sure MSN isn’t happy!
