Yahoo! has just announced a new weather report for September 2009.
For those of you new to the process, Yahoo!’s weather report is their monthly announcement that the index is getting updated.
As with all their Yahoo! Weather Reports, the announcement post by Dan Rampton warns
“During this process, you may see some ranking changes and page shuffling in the index”
The question is – “who really cares anymore?”
Given the announcement post was a meagre 46 words and has a grand total of “ZERO” comments, it makes you wonder whether people still care about Yahoo! Search (including the staff).
We all know that Yahoo! will be shifting to Bing’s organic results sometime over the next 11-12 months, but is it too early to totally dismiss Yahoo! SEO.
At the end of the day, Yahoo! is still the 2nd most popular search engine in terms of usage and if you ask most website owners, it still delivers solid organic traffic.
So can you afford to ignore the SEO importance of Yahoo!? At this stage I would say no. I wouldn’t be investing heavily in a Yahoo! specific SEO campaign, but its definitely still worth tracking and enhancing your Yahoo! performance.
Sitexplorer by Yahoo! is still one of the easiest ways to keep on top of your Yahoo! and general SEO stats such as backlinks etc. So at the very least, I would use the Yahoo! weather reports as a reminder to pop over to sitexplorer for your monthly check up!
