December 1st marks the kick-off for this year’s online holiday shopping season. Retailers can expect to see increased sales and search queries right up until the new year, so it’s important to get your website ready.
During this time, it’s critical to get your products in front of potential customers who may be shopping online. The following graph from comScore shows the gradual increase in sales right up until the week before Christmas:
So the real question is: Are You Prepared?
Doesn’t stress, you still have time to take advantage of the shopping frenzy. I’ve put together some tips which should help you to maximise sales during this busy period.
1. Send out an email promotion to your subscribers
Let your existing customers know about any special offers or discount prices you’ll be offering over the holiday period. This is a quick way to reach out to your customers.
2. Search Advertising on Google/Yahoo!
Search advertising is a great way to target new customers because your ads are live almost instantly and you can feature next to the top search results for your products or services.
If you already run a paid search campaign, consider increasing your budget right up until the new year to maximise your returns for the holiday period.
3. Target traditional shoppers with Google Local Listings
Local listings are very effective for targeting traditional shoppers who may be looking for products in their local area. Google local listings can appear as the first listings on a Google results page, so it’s an extremely effective way to being in new business.
As with search advertising, local listings can be live almost immediately and can include holiday season discounts and special offers.
Finally, make sure you offer some strong incentives during this time to improve your chance of conversion. Offers like free shipping and percentage discounts are especially popular. Good Luck!
