If you ever needed convincing of the value of a top Google listing for your business, then recent study will have you believing.
Online ad network, Chitika recently held a study to determine how much the top Google listing is worth. The answer? Double that of the number 2 listing!
The study took a sample of the traffic coming into the Chitika advertising network from Google and broke it down by Google results placement. The top spot gave 34.35% of traffic, while the number 2 spot on drove 16.96%.
The graph below outlines the percentage of traffic generated for the top 20 Google listings.
Chitika research director Daniel Ruby shared his thoughts on the findings:
Obviously, everyone knows that the #1 spot on Google is where you want to be. It’s just kind of shocking to look at the numbers and see just how important it is, and how much of a jump there is from 2 to 1.
That shows the value is ensuring your website gets a top Google ranking. But what was most interesting is that the biggest jump in traffic percentage, which shows the value of being on page one. Pages ranked in the #10 spot — at the bottom of page one — got 143% more traffic than pages in the #11 spot, at the top of page two.
