Ever had your website or blog hacked? Google is here to help!
Google recently launched a help center to specifically assist website owners who have had their website hacked. This help center comes complete with a set of step by step instructions as well as videos that outline each and every part of the process.
The steps include:
(1) Watch the overview
(2) Contact your hoster and build a support team
(3) Quarantine your site
(4) Touch base with Webmaster Tools
(5) Assess the damage (hacked with spam) or Assess the damage (hacked with malware)
(6) Identify the vulnerability
(7) Clean and maintain your site
(8) Request a review
The video guides feature Google’s Developer Programs Tech Lead, Maile Ohye, who was quoted as saying, “we wanted to connect our capability to detect and alert site owners of their hacked sites with improved resources to help them recover.”
For a while now, Google has made an effort to inform site owners when their websites were hacked. With their new help center, Google has decided to take it a step further. The help center shows website owners the steps they need to take to fix their website and get the warnings removed from the search results on Google. Maile does mention in a blog post that each step of the tasks web owners need to take are fairly difficult unless the site owner has advanced knowledge of source codes and system administration.
The blog post also gives tips for how website owners can avoid getting hacked in the first place. It discusses the importance of web owners keeping their sites safe and secure for their visitors.
Even if you’re not a victim of a hacked site, this is a great resource to keep on hand for future reference.
