Credit card company Visa has announced that the volume of e-commerce transactions using Visa credit cards reached $2.7 billion in the week of December 19 to 25. This represents an increase of 48.4% compared to the same period in 2004. 33.46 million transactions were completed during this period, an increase of 41.3% compared to the same time in 2004.
In total, Visa e-commerce sales worth more than $24 billion were placed during the critical holiday shopping period between October 31 and December 25, with an average order value of $80.97. With total Visa sales of $232.4 billion for the holiday shopping season, e-commerce sales accounted for more than 10% of total sales on Visa credit cards.
