I’m sure you have a pretty fair idea of which websites are the most popular but Google wants to share their list to help in your advertising efforts.
Google’s list of the top 1,000 sites is measured from its Ad Planner feature and is based on category, unique visitors, reach and page views.
And the winner is…
Keeping in mind that this list doesn’t include data from Google and YouTube, the winner is Facebook! With 540 million users, over 570 billion pageviews, and approximately 35% of all measured web traffic, Facebook is the world’s number 1 website. Yahoo.com came is second place, followed by live.com, wikipedia.org and msn.com.
Google wanted to release the list so as to show advertisers the sites they should be advertising on. It’s interesting to not that there are only 2 sites in the top 10 that don’t offer advertising – wikipedia.org and mozilla.com.
With all the hype of real-time searching this year, I thought that Twitter would have ranked higher in the list. It currently sits in 18th position with 5.4 billion page views.
Now that you know which site’s you should be advertising on, Google wants to help you get your AdWords ads onto these sites. You can find more details here.
