With the recent announcement of site speed now being a factor in where Google ranks your website, many webmasters have been asking where they should start on their site to make it faster.
Google have listened and produced a video which includes the three steps to understanding site performance.
Maile Ohye, Google Developer Programs Tech Lead recently presented at the Search Marketing Expo and there has been such demand for the presentation that she has filmed it to make it available for everyone.
Maile’s presentation outlines the importance of making your site faster and why Google believe speed is a primary importance. She also provides some tips and tools to make your site faster without spending any money.
The video goes for 12 minutes, so get comfy in your chair. If you don’t have time to view the whole video then I would suggest checking out webpagetest.org to test your site’s performance. For some DIY tools, plugins and a help forum, head over to code.google.com/speed/.
While speed is the latest ranking factor to be announced by Google, remember there are over 200 factors that determine your ranking in the Google search results. So while it is important to have your site at its best, putting emphasis and effort into just one factor might not pay dividends.
Do you have any tips or tools you have used to speed up your website? We would love you to share them with all our readers in the comments section below.
