Google made one final PageRank update for 2008 by updating their toolbar rankings on new years eve! This update applies to the PageRank value shown in the Google toolbar, which is Google’s rating on the popularity of your website.
As we’ve discussed previously, toolbar PageRank values can be a few months old, and can also be different from the live values Google is using right at the moment. Still, this update should provide some popularity insights for new sites that have been working hard to improve their rankings.
Our core domains remained at PR6 and PR4 respectively, but I have been reading that various new sites (like IMBroadcast.com) increased from a PR0 to a PR4 with this update.
Google have confirmed this update has been applied as of the 31st December. If you’ve noticed a change in your toolbar PageRank value, let us know via the blog comments below!

I’ve been working on my SEO all year, got more incoming links than ever, more relevant fresh content, then Google puts me down from 4 to 2 on PageRank!
I don’t get it and am mega frustrated, although my traffic is better than ever. Why does it do this? Help!

I noticed the change.
My main page swoodproducts.com stayed the same (pr3)
Most of the internal pages went form 0 to 2By Scott G. - January 6, 2009
@Appliances - If your traffic is up, I wouldn't worry too much about the little green bar!
@Scott & Richard - Well done on the increase, have you seen a change in your traffic or search engine visitors?

I am behind the news right now, but I finally found out today that there was a Google Page Rank update. I haven’t updated my site for 2 months but I had obtained some back links, but my page rank decreased from 3 to 2. Disappointing. I guess I will have to start actively posting again. Another of mine blog has less traffic but managed to get a higher page rank.
