For the past three years, Google have challenged university students all over the world to put their AdWords skills to the test. The Google Online Marketing Challenge attracts thousands of students from nearly 100 countries and ineedhits is proud to have a close relationship with the winners.
The goal of the competition is for the teams to compile an effective AdWords campaign and see it through the management of the campaign from analysis to optimization. The campaign must be for a real business and they only have 3 weeks to complete the competition.
I have had first hand experience with the competition, so I know exactly how challenging it can be for the teams. In 2007, Google chose a select group of university students to take part in the Beta stage of the competition and I am proud to say that I led the team of 5 from the University of Western Australia to win the competition.
Since then, the University of Western Australia has produced two more winning teams in 2008 and 2010. The team leader of the winning team in 2008, Victor Tsen shared his experience while working with the ineedhits team. Victor even wrote a guest post on the ineedhits blog sharing the winning prize – a trip to the Googleplex in Silicon Valley.
I was fortunate to work closely with this year’s winning team. It was a pleasure to be given the opportunity to share my previous experience from the challenge as well as the real business cases that I have come across while working at ineedhits.
To see how my experience has helped the students to have a better understanding of the Adwords system gives me a real buzz. I would like to congratulate this year’s winning team and hope to see many more teams from the University of Western Australia be crowed winners in the future.
