Last week we reported on the success of YouTube in August with around 10 billion video views for the month.
Now it would seem that Google wants to cash in on this success with the announcement of YouTube Promoted Videos on AdSense sites.
Promoted Videos are generally movie trailers or product demos on YouTube which are promoted by their creator to reach a bigger audience. However, now if an AdSense site has ad slots available then the YouTube Promoted videos could show up there as well.
Here is what Arlene Lee from the Inside AdSense Team explains about the new advertising:
Extending Promoted Videos to AdSense sites will enable these content producers to broaden their reach, while providing you with another way to earn from your ad space.
These video ads will compete with text and image ads in AdSense’s ad auctions and shown through the Google Content Network. Thought AdSense already had video ads? Well, technically you are correct, however Google classifies them as ‘image ads.’ These two video ad units will now run side by side.
At this stage, these new ads are only available in English to US publishers, but Google have hinted that they will likely expand this in the future.
This is a good move for Google. Not only will this give them an opportunity to make decent money off YouTube (something which they have struggled to do in the past), but its also great news for video publishers by giving them another avenue to expose their videos.
