Google “Identity Verification Will Boost Your Ranking”

Posted by @ 9:35 pm

Google CEO, Eric Schmidt has never been one to keep mum about his predictions for the future of search and how they may affect others. Instead of voicing his opinion online, he is now resorting to his new book, “The New Digital Age.” There, he goes on to explain how the privacy of individuals will likely be nonexistent in the future, but it will help with your website’s ranking in Google.

Through Google+, the search giants social media platform, Schmidt says that Google have now tapped into the era of linking social profiles with information. Google had hinted previously about the new authorship they were working on for Google+ users. Now when a person goes to use the search engine, those with a Google+ authorship will receive top rankings over those without it. These top ranked sites will likely be clicked on by more users not wanting to search further through the results pages.

Here is the extract from the book:

Within search results, information tied to verified online profiles will be ranked higher than content without such verification, which will result in most users naturally clicking on the top (verified) results. The true cost of remaining anonymous, then, might be irrelevance.

The connection between authorship and relevant content will be a great thing for those looking to boost their rankings, but not so great for those who want to find the right relevant content. It also may pose a problem for those who do not want their profile linked to an article. In time, this can be very discerning for people who wish to remain private.

We knew a day would come when privacy was a thing of the past, but Schmidt clearly spells out that day is sooner than we had expected. Schmidt also mentions that Google is looking for more rewarding technology to help improve our lives, but he also gives us some concerning insight into what Google has planned for our future.

For SEO’s and webmasters, this is good news. Any new tactics to help improve website rankings is always appreciated. I know our SEO team have already been testing this theory for the past couple of weeks and they have had some great results.
