Google Can Now Predict Future Search Trends

It’s hard to believe that it has been over a year since Google launched their Insights for Search tool. Now Google have announced some additional features to the tool.

For those who are unaware of this tool, Google Insights for Search allows users to track search trends across different verticals, geographic locations and time periods. It’s a great help if you want to learn more about which keywords are the right ones to target in your PPC campaign.

As part of the upgrade, the tool is now available in 39 languages. But by far the most impressive part of the release is the new forecast feature, which aims to extrapolate future popularity of keywords (based on historical trends and search patterns).

The Google Labs team in Israel explains more:

Having predictable trends for a search query or for a group of queries could have interesting ramifications. We have used a simple forecasting model that learns basic seasonality and general trend. For each trends sequence of interest, we take a point in time, t, which is about a year back, compute a one year forecasting for t based on historical data available at time t, and compare it to the actual trends sequence that occurs since time t.

If you want to get a better understanding of these trends from a visual image, Google have now included an animated map to the tool.

So if you’re looking for a quick and easy way to find out which keywords you should be targeting throughout different times of the year, then I would suggest checking out Google Insights for Search.

As always, Google have included a video explaining more about these new features, so I have added it below for your convenience. Enjoy!
