With the holiday season just around the corner, Google recently announced a major upgrade to its popular site performance tracking platform,Google Analytics, which might prove to be very beneficial for your business.
The upgrade includes improvement in presentation, a real-time tracking feature of sites and a fee based premium service under the name Google Analytics Premium.
The real-time tracking will help you see the number of people coming to your site every minute and the number of visitors actively browsing your site at that very moment. This feature allows monitoring of the traffic source coming to your website, the pages being viewed, the GEO location of visitors, and the keywords that brought the visitors (if from search, paid or organic).
Google Analytics Premium has been developed to address the specific needs, of some customers that are not met by the current free version of Google Analytics. The Analytics Premium has the following additional features:
- Extra processing power – increased data collection, more custom variables and downloadable, un-sampled reports
- Advanced analysis – attribution modeling tools that allow you to test different models for assigning credit to conversions
- Service and support – experts to guide customized installation, and dedicated account management on call – all backed by 24/7 support
- Guarantees – service level agreements for data collection, processing and reporting. This includes: 1) 99.9% Collection up-time, 2) 99% on Reporting up-time and 3) 98% on on-time Data Freshness (within 4 hours)
Another difference between the free and premium versions of Google Analytics is where the free version only lets you use up to 5 custom variables in your analytics, the Premium version allows you use up to 50 custom variables giving users the ability to do some heavy analytical study of their website performance.
The big names customers already attracted to Google Analytics Premium include Gucci and Travelocity who were included in trials of the premium service.
For those of you worried that Google Analytics will discontinue with a free version now that Analytics Premium has arrived, don’t worry it’s not going anywhere according to Google’s Enrique Munoz Torres:

Even though this upgrade seems to be more targeted at high end users of Google Analytics, anyone can upgrade their existing free analytics account to premium version for a one time flat-rate annual fee – but be prepared to hand over $150,000 of your hard earned cash for the privilege. Users can view these upgrades in the new interface of Google Analytics, under the Dashboard tab.
