Earlier in March, Google AdWords announced that landing page load time will become a factor in calculating your Quality Score. Google have now updated AdWords reporting to display this information before it starts to become a Quality Score factor in mid-June.
Below I’ve provided an example of what this looks like for one of our keywords with a “Great” quality score:
To access this information, simple hover your mouse over the magnifying glass next to each keyword and click on the quality score “details and recommendations” link.
If you’ve found your load time to be poor, you may wish to optimize different areas of your page to improve speed. Some of these key areas to watch are:
- Server speed – the computer that hosts your website
- Database - how reliant is your web page on a database
- HTML code – how much code makes up your web page
- Images and Media – what’s the size of the images and rich media on your page
Some basic tips include; optimizing your images to be less than 50kb, trimming down on excess HTML code, ensuring your site is hosted on a reliable server and minimizing scripts used on your website.
