Matt Cutts recently took the time to answer many web owners’ question regarding whether or not they should worry when bad links are pointing towards their website.
Fortunately, Matt has reassured web owners in this video that they shouldn’t let themselves lose sleep over bad links. He said as long as you do not claim any responsibility for the bad links; you have nothing to worry about. After all, you cannot really control what other people post about your website.
In the event that you come across a website with bad links coming back to your website the best approach would be to contact the owner of the website with the links first. You just need to explain to the other that linking to your website is of no relevance to them and you would appreciate it if they could remove your links. Sometimes the website owner will respond and move the links, other times they may ignore you and keep the links on their site. Obviously, there is nothing you can do as a website owner if the other owner chooses not to remove the links.
If you still are uneasy about the situation you can always put a disavow on your website and it will make sure that any traffic that comes in from the website you are trying to ignore will not be counted against your analytics. The most important thing to keep in mind is that irrelevant websites linking to your website is not your fault or problem as long as you had nothing to do with it.
